NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- When Apple's (AAPL) Phil Schiller spewed Can't innovate any more, my ass at this year's Worldwide Developer's Conference, I came out against his defensiveness. Because, as I explained Monday morning at TheStreet, if you're not concerned about Apple's ability to innovate in a post-Steve Jobs world, they should be waiting for you at Bellevue with their oxygen masks.

(Go ahead, Google that fine piece of lyrical gold).

Schiller simply misplaced his anger. With iTunes Radio, Apple is absolutely not innovating; it's knocking off Pandora (P). And, while you can technically call it "innovation," the new Mac Pro computer, as incredible as it is, means little, if anything, in the consumer (or even business) marketplace. Certainly, you can make the case that Apple should and needs to do these things, but the Internet radio thing isn't innovative and the computer that could double as a generator is innovation in a vacuum.

Regulated Energy

Its Florida natural gas distribution operation consists of Chesapeake�� Florida division and FPU�� natural gas operation. As of December 31, 2011, its natural gas marketing subsidiary, PESCO, provided natural gas supply and supply management services to 3,080 customers in Florida and 16 customers on the Delmarva Peninsula. The gas, which PESCO sells, is delivered to retail customers through affiliated and non-affiliated local distribution company systems and transmission pipelines. PESCO bills its customers through the billing services of the regulated utilities that deliver the gas, or directly, through its own billing capabilities.     This week, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel proposed a defense budget that would reduce the US Army to its smallest force since before World War II. And we were woefully under-prepared for that war.

    The proposals will face powerful resistance from members of Congress, veterans��organizations, arms manufacturers and more. Complete details of the proposed federal budget are to be released next week.

    The timing is unfortunate. For example, consider this headline from last night: “Russia says it will respect the ‘territorial integrity’ of Ukraine.” Maybe. But such statements are meaningless.

    Amid considerable other global unrest these days, reducing our spending on defense seems imprudent. However, various constraints that have built up over time require it, or reductions elsewhere.

    Fifty years ago, the military made up nearly half of government spending. Now it’s about 17 percent. Entitlements were one-third of the budget then. Now they’re approaching two-thirds. “This is a time for reality,” Hagel said.

    Under the new approach, the emphasis is to shift from the longstanding goal of being able to fight two wars simultaneously, such as in Europe and Asia; and toward such threats as cyber warfare and terrorism.

    For instance, the size of the active-duty military would decline by 13 percent and the reserves by 5 percent in coming years. But Special Operations forces would grow by 6 percent.

    Look at Hi-Tech Pharmacal�� (HITK) cash flow statement below. Hi-Tech just received approval by the FDA for an oral concentrate of Lorazepam. Lorazepam is an often-used drug for the treatment of anxiety and is probably used by more Wall Street analysts than I care to know about. Note that the last three years indicate that net income is greater than operating cash flow. This is known as a red flag and should be investigated thoroughly if you intend to invest in any stock with similar numbers.
